Review the Trial Balance

Compare Debit and Credit balances by account at two reporting dates.

Review Debit and Credit balances by account at two reporting dates.

Steps

  1. Open Reports > Trial Balance.
  2. Choose a Report Period. Its From and To dates remain visible and

read-only, or choose Custom Range to edit both dates.

  1. Review the Debit and Credit balances for each date and the report totals.
  2. Investigate unexpected balances through General Ledger.
  3. Use Export CSV or Print when required.

Accounting Method

The current interface displays Accrual Basis and does not allow the Accounting Method selector to be changed. It presents the completed double-entry ledger, including posted Journal Entries and opening-balance counterparts. A cash-basis Trial Balance is not currently provided; compare a cash-basis report only with guidance from your Accountant.

Included accounting activity

The report includes both debit and credit sides of applicable completed transactions and posted Journal Entry lines. Reversal entries offset reversed originals while both remain in the ledger history. An account opening balance has an equal opposite entry in Opening Balance Equity. Inactive accounts with history remain included.

Important boundaries

  • Trial Balance remains an as-of report. From and To produce two complete

Trial Balances for comparison; they do not filter the report to period activity.

  • A balanced Trial Balance does not guarantee that every Category or tax treatment is correct.
  • Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable subledgers are not implemented in the current Journal Entry model.
  • Use account detail and source documents to investigate unusual balances.
